Runners in Reus cover 1,200 meters with sacks of hazelnuts weighing 58 kilograms for men and 28 kilograms for women. The Cursa Portadors Sacs d'avellanes, part of a local fair, begins in the evening, around 8:30 PM, from Plaça de la Llibertat.
The route circles Plaça de la Llibertat before proceeding along Avinguda de Sant Jordi. Fields are small, with sixteen to twenty runners, but the effort is evident: some stumble, recover, and finish with smiles. Youness El Hannach of Reus completed the course in under four minutes, and Lydia Castro won the women's race shortly after. A distinct women's race was introduced after earlier events saw women competing with men due to insufficient female participation.
