Palencia's running scene centers on flat courses through the city and along the Carrión River valley — the Media Maratón de Palencia and Carrera Nocturna Monumental are the anchor races, both taking advantage of the town's low elevation around 700m. Cyclists have stronger options: the BTT Bike Race El Cautivo and Castrillera Bike both push into the Castilian meseta's rolling terrain northwest toward the Cantabrian foothills, offering 400-600m elevation gain on gravel and forest tracks within 30km of the city.
