About this race
The Marató de Boumort is a mountain trail race held in Organyà, located in the Alt Urgell region of Lleida, within the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees. The primary race covers approximately 45 to 46 kilometers with an elevation gain of 2,100 to 2,300 meters, presenting a challenge akin to a demanding mountain day rather than a road marathon on unpaved surfaces. Additionally, the event features a 23-kilometer half marathon with around 1,250 meters of ascent, alongside Nordic walking and Petit Boumort and Xics Boumort options for younger or less competition-oriented participants.
The marathon course forms a loop around the Serra de Boumort, crossing the steep, protected terrain above Organyà. This area is a remote section of the Pre-Pyrenees, with significant inclines, wooded areas, and a nature reserve focused on mountain wildlife, distinct from urban running environments. The non-competitive walk follows a portion of the marathon route, descending through the Vall de Cabó before concluding in Organyà, offering participants a more accessible experience of the same landscape. The full marathon represents the most demanding event, while the shorter distances ensure the race appeals to a broader audience beyond just experienced trail runners.
