Ruta Senderismo Los Doce Apóstoles 2026

Ruta Senderismo Los Doce Apóstoles is a non-competitive hike in Salvaleón, Badajoz province, Spain. Started in 2007, it attracts hundreds of hiking enthusiasts. The typical distance is 16 to 17 km, rated medium difficulty, primarily on paths with little elevation change. It is a half-day outing, not a race, with an estimated walking time of 4.5 hours, including breaks. The route crosses dehesa countryside featuring holm oaks, cork oaks, Mediterranean scrub, and aromatic plants like thyme, oregano, rockrose, and mint. The name originates from the Los Doce Apóstoles area, situated between the Sierra de Monsalud and Sierra de Rozallana at approximately 400 meters elevation. This location was named for twelve ancient cork oaks, seven of which remain. The hike also follows the old Barcarrota road, crosses a stream, passes a pilar, and heads back toward Salvaleón through more open dehesa.
