About this race
SkyRace Caras Norte is a mountain race held in Güéjar Sierra, a village in Granada near the Sierra Nevada. It takes place in late November, offering a 21 km race with 1,000 meters of elevation gain and a 14 km option with 720 meters of climbing. The course avoids Sierra Nevada National Park due to regulations within its boundaries. The event was created to showcase the town, its mountain environment, and local traditions, without making the course excessively technical.
The 21 km race starts in Güéjar Sierra and soon connects with the Via Verde del Tranvía, a former tramway used to transport hikers towards the higher mountains. This tram line followed the Genil River through a canyon, crossing over 20 bridges before a section was submerged by the Canales reservoir. Participants proceed alongside the Genil, ascending the Vereda de la Estrella. They will pass through riverside woodlands with poplar, aspen, and ash trees, alongside blackberry and wild rose bushes. The route features suspension bridges, reaches Barranco de las Ánimas near the 7 km mark, then turns onto the Vereda de la Solana towards Fuentesuelas before proceeding on the Vereda de las Herrerías, where the ascent continues.
