About this race
Subida Vertical al Pico del Buitre is a mountain race held in Arcos de las Salinas, Teruel province, Spain, starting on Avda de Blas Murria. Typically taking place in late September, it offers participants several routes to Pico del Buitre: an 11 km road race, two trail options around 10 km each, and a children's course. The road race is the most frequently chosen, while the 10.6 km trail race, which has UTMB Index status, includes 1120 m of elevation gain.
The event is situated in the Gúdar-Javalambre region, meaning the day focuses on mountain terrain. Participants will encounter steep ascents, technical trails, and quick descents, varying with their chosen route. The race adheres to Federación Aragonesa de Montañismo regulations for mountain running. Previous editions have seen approximately 950 registered participants. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each race and subcategory. Additionally, the largest team receives a trophy and a ham, determined by the number of finishers across all race formats.
