Travesía de Navidad Triavila - Ciudad de Ávila is a short open-water swim at Embalse Fuentes Claras in Ávila, Castilla y León. It takes place around the Christmas and New Year period, with a 300 m distance and a deliberately wintery setup: the water is expected to be between 5ºC and 10ºC. The race is listed as non-competitive, so the focus is less about beating others and more about completing a very cold swim in a controlled event.
Swimmers start one at a time in a time-trial format, leaving at one-minute intervals rather than diving in as a group. Wetsuits are permitted, which is significant in water this cold. The event claims to be possibly the coldest swimming race in Spain, and that claim gives it much of its character: a compact reservoir swim, inland rather than coastal, built around the shock and bragging rights of a January dip in Ávila.
