About this race
UTDS EDP DesafiOSOmiedo begins and concludes in Pola de Somiedo, a village in Asturias, Spain, directing runners on a single-stage ultra trail through Somiedo Natural Park. The official race details state it covers 70.7 kilometers with 4,100 meters of ascent and an equal amount of descent, totaling 8,200 meters of elevation change. Participants have 14 hours to complete the course, which operates under a semi-self-sufficient format, requiring runners to carry and manage their own food, hydration, and equipment between aid stations.
The course remains within the natural park boundaries, featuring checkpoints and aid stations at locations such as Arbeyales, Saliencia, La Farrapona, Valle del Lago, Puerto de Somiedo, and Mumian before looping back to Pola de Somiedo. Stricter cut-off times add to the challenge from the outset: runners must reach Arbeyales (12.7 km) within 2 hours 15 minutes, La Farrapona (31.1 km) within 6 hours 30 minutes, and Puerto de Somiedo (58 km) within 11 hours 45 minutes. This is the main event distance for EDP DesafiOSOmiedo; while some external sites list the race at 86 km, the official course information serves as the definitive guide.
