About this race
66°Sud la Cyclo is a road cycling event based near Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Riders begin the season’s warmer months here, cycling between the Mediterranean plain and the initial climbs toward the Pyrenees. Scheduled for late April, it features five distances: a short 18 km time trial and a 149 km Gran Fondo with 2,442 m of elevation gain. Most participants begin and end in Saint-Estève, though the time trial starts separately in Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste on the Thursday preceding the main rides.
The routes traverse vineyards, villages, flat valley roads, and more challenging hillier terrain as they approach the mountains. The Gran Fondo presents the most demanding route for strong riders, while the 113 km Medio Fondo still offers a substantial day with 1,338 m of climbing. The 91 km and 57 km touring rides cater to cyclists seeking the event's atmosphere without the commitment of over 100 km. The 18 km time trial is designed for those preferring a brief, intense effort. The organizing body also hosts road, gravel, and night trail events, positioning 66°Sud within a broader outdoor racing schedule rather than as an isolated sportive.
