About this race

The Boucle Gardannaise is a trail race held in early January in Gardanne, located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of southern France. Situated in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, this event takes runners into the natural surroundings and forests near a town central to the Provence mining basin's geography and history. Three race distances are offered: La Bouclette at 7 km, La Boucle Gardannaise at approximately 12-13 km, and the Trail des Gueules Noires at 23 km. The shorter and intermediate routes include climbs, with the 7 km and 12 km trails listing 300 meters of positive elevation. The Trail des Gueules Noires, at about 23 km with roughly 750 meters of gain, presents a more demanding challenge. This event, with over forty-eight editions documented, attracts participants seeking a local trail competition instead of a flat road race. The mining heritage is integral, reflected in the long race's name and suggested visits to the Mine in Gardanne.
