About this race

The Brest Urban Trail takes place in mid-April in Brest, a city on the coast of Brittany in western France. It ranks as the third largest urban trail event in France, offering around ten race options ranging from short 3.5 or 4 km runs to a 30 km race that can be completed solo or as a relay. The event also features races for children and juniors, an 8 km handisport category, and childcare services for parents participating. It begins with a time trial where participants start every 15 seconds, and its slogan, “Ne pas être en rade !”, references Brest’s harbour and the French expression for not being left stranded. The routes contribute to the event's appeal, as the exact course remains undisclosed until shortly before the start, preventing participants from gaining an advantage through prior knowledge. Runners navigate the city, pass along coastal sections, ascend numerous staircases, and traverse streets leading down to the water. The course incorporates Brest’s historical sites, including the Ateliers des Capucins, a former naval industrial area now a public space. The weekend includes cultural and festive activities alongside the races, with a distinct Breton character that organizers liken to an Interceltic Festival, complete with bagpipes. A “BrUT de décoffrage” Challenge is also available for runners wishing to combine two race formats rather than selecting a single distance.
