About this race
Capito Trail is a weekend of trail running held in October in Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, located in the Velay region of Haute-Loire. Participants can select from 14 km, 20 km, or 33 km trail routes. Walkers have 8 km and 11 km options. This event accommodates first-time trail runners, nordic walkers, and individuals seeking a challenging mountain excursion. The main 33 km route features 1500 m of elevation gain and a technical course, ascending to the summits of six volcanic peaks known as “sucs.” A non-timed 8 km night run on Saturday offers a more relaxed choice, with a participant limit of 200.
The shorter route proceeds towards Monedeyres, featuring an aid station with musical accompaniment. It crosses the mills and untamed terrain of Combe Noire before turning predominantly downhill through Bourgeneuf, showcasing its characteristic Meygal architecture. Saturday also includes nordic walking, hikes, and children’s races. The broader program covers duo formats and a charitable initiative. Chapteuil Sports Nature organizes the event, emphasizing a strong local character with volunteers, music, communal food stops, and routes designed around the nearby forests, ponds, hamlets, and volcanic hills. Over 900 participants took part in the newer courses during a recent edition, and the event is now in its fifteenth year.
