About this race
The Course du début de l'an is a New Year trail race in L'Arbresle, organized by the commune's festival committee. Close to 500 runners started in the biting cold, with two options: an 11 km trail and a 20 km trail. The shorter race had 290 registered runners, and the longer one had 210, splitting the event almost evenly between the two distances.
The 11 km route climbs over 280 meters, and the 20 km route climbs 584 meters, meaning neither option is a simple winter jog. The 20 km distance was added after runner requests, giving this second edition more depth than a single local fun run. Before the start, Hubert led the warm-up with ankle work, heel kicks, and high knees. At least one 20 km runner, Hugo, approached the full race as a shared challenge rather than a time trial.
