Cross de la Sablière is a February cross-country race held in the state forest of Viroflay, a commune in Yvelines near Paris. Participants should expect cold weather; neck warmers, headbands, and gloves are standard attire. The event offers eight races and distances, beginning with a 1000-meter run for the youngest children.
The course crosses forest terrain, not city streets, and mud is considered an enjoyable aspect of the race. Organized by USMV, the event attracts a wide local participation, with one recent edition reaching 1800 runners, a record for the race. Two local associations, Les Dunes d'espoir and Les Bouchons d'espoir, are consistent partners. The race maintains a playful sand-and-mud theme in its slogan: “Come get sandy with pleasure.” The upcoming edition will also commemorate the race’s 50th anniversary.
