Headlamps are required for Dark Trail, a series of French night trail events focused on running after dark on natural terrain. The Jura race begins in Orgelet, a village near Mont Orgier, and takes place in November with three distances: approximately 10 km, 20 km, and 31 km. The longer Jura course ascends over 1,000 metres, meaning the event includes significant climbs.
The Orgelet routes traverse varied trails and rolling Jura terrain. The shorter option serves as a practical introduction to night trail running, while the longer options offer good preparation for winter night races. Post-race, participants can change, eat, and warm up with homemade tartiflette, with hundreds of portions prepared. A separate Dark Trail event in Cerny, Essonne, occurs in mid-winter on 12 km and 16 km forest courses, primarily on paths, emphasizing shared enjoyment over competitive times or rankings.
