About this race
The ENISE Trail is a student-organized trail race in Saint-Etienne, France, named after the Ecole Nationale d'Ingenieurs de Saint-Etienne. The event has taken place since 2015, now scheduled for September after earlier editions were typically held in May. It provides three main trail distances: La Madone at 9 km with 350 m of elevation gain, Les Echeneaux at 19 km with 650 m, and La Rivoire at 25 km with 1000 m. A 9 km walking route with 300 m of climbing is also offered, ensuring the day accommodates participants not focused on racing.
The race is situated around Saint-Etienne in the foothills of the Massif Central, with routes connected to the Pilat Regional Natural Park. The terrain involves significant climbing even on the shorter course; the longest option presents a compact, mountain-style challenge rather than a flat urban run. Entry fees are kept modest, with on-site registration available if spots are open, subject to a small surcharge. Walkers may also register at the venue. Children under 10 can participate in the walk without charge. The event maintains an online archive of past results and photo albums, and it actively seeks volunteers, aligning with its student-run character over a commercial race brand.
