About this race
Font-Romeu Nature Trail is a mountain trail weekend in Font-Romeu, in the Catalan Pyrenees, offering races from 7 km to marathon distance plus a 7 km hike. It typically schedules the short community race for Saturday afternoon and the longer races for Sunday, with bib pickup and award ceremonies following the main finishes. The location is significant: Font-Romeu and the surrounding Cerdan high plateau have been a training base for athletes for over fifty years, attracting skilled trail runners, hikers, and recreational runners seeking a high-mountain course without extreme distances.
The routes traverse pine forest paths, Cerdagne trails, and high-altitude lake areas near Lac des Bouillouses and Lac d'Aude. The Trail de La Calme covers 15 km with approximately 650 m of elevation gain, the Trail des Bouillouses is 26 km with about 1000 m, and the marathon is around 42 km with roughly 1800 m, featuring three aid stations on the longest course. One route ascends to Roc de la Calme for a vista over the Bouillouses, while the current marathon route bypasses the Carlit summit, passing instead near about twenty lakes. Most distances are rated as moderately technical, contributing to the weekend's character as a genuine Pyrenean trail event rather than a road race on unpaved surfaces.
