Runners departed Lévignac-sur-Save after dark for Forest Trail 31, a winter trail race held in the hills west of Toulouse. Though no longer organized, the event featured four night routes: La Comète (12 km), La Météore (18 km), La Nébuleuse (25 km), and La Supernova (43 km). Elevation gain varied from 250 m on the shortest route to 950 m on the longest, ensuring even the shorter option involved significant trail difficulty.
Mud was a common factor, as rain frequently preceded race night, softening the trails before participants started. Les Velocyraptors 31, a collective of trail, raid, and mountain bike enthusiasts, established the race, with its space-themed course names providing a whimsical character. The 18 km distance attracted over 500 participants in a prior year, and the 43 km and 12 km races also drew several hundred each. On the longest route, runners encountered a water point at the Base de Loisirs de Bouconne near the 18 km mark.
