Besançon

Besançon's running scene centres on the Doubs river loop through the old town—a tight meander that creates natural 5-10km circuit routes at roughly 250m elevation. Cyclists gravitate to the Jura plateau immediately east, where the Randonnée gourmande du plateau and Faucons & balcons de la loue offer rolling limestone terrain and views across the valley; the longer routes climb steadily toward 600m without sustained steep grades.
