Vizille is located approximately 18 km from Grenoble in France’s Isère department. The Grenoble-Vizille race leverages this proximity between city and valley. The primary event is a 22 km flat course, available for solo runners and two-person teams. A 16.5 km race for teams of four is also part of the program. The event takes place in late March in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, offering walking options alongside the running races.
The event caters to more than just runners aiming for the 22 km distance. Hikers can select routes of 10 km, 15 km, or 21 km, with the two longer hikes offered free of charge. Vizille, situated in the Romanche valley, possesses a rich history beyond its physical dimensions, notably featuring the Musée de la Révolution française within the château of Lesdiguières. This provides the race with a distinct local identity: Grenoble serves as the major urban reference, while Vizille offers the character of the finish town and a compelling reason to remain after the race.
