About this race
La Nuit Blanche du Pilat begins after dark in Le Bessat, a village situated high in the Pilat massif within France's Loire department. This winter night trail race takes place at approximately 1,200 metres altitude, with the primary course typically spanning around 15 km and featuring roughly 300 to 400 metres of elevation gain. The race commences at 6:00 PM, sending participants into the forest and mountain terrain where they contend with cold, darkness, and occasionally snow.
The event is an early proponent of the French night snow-trail format, consistently filling its participant slots and attracting around 1,500 runners, with some editions seeing gatherings closer to 1,700 individuals. The course's length accommodates a broad range of participants while still requiring them to navigate winter trail conditions, utilize headlamps, and manage exposed evening elements. Since 2010, SANG POUR SANG SPORT has been associated with the event, and all proceeds benefit charities, including those supporting the fight against lymphoma.
