At 1,200 meters in the Pilat massif, La Rando de la Nuit Blanche du Pilat starts runners and walkers from Le Bessat after dark with headlamps. This is a night trail and winter walking race through the forests around the village, where cold, darkness, and possible snow are expected. The main trail is 15 km with 400 meters of climbing, and the rando option uses a 9 km loop with a flexible start between 6 PM and 8 PM. Places are limited, registration is required, and the event typically has about 1,500 participants each year.
The course runs through the woods of Le Bessat, making the headlamp essential for seeing the trail. Now in its 16th edition, the race was an early event in French night snow-trail running. The organizers include a local-food element: aid stations may feature Pilat charcuterie and mulled wine, and the finish offers a large tartiflette made with Reblochon from Savoie. Since 2010, SANG POUR SANG SPORT has donated all evening profits to lymphoma research.
