Le Trail Blanc du Semnoz is a snowy night trail race held annually on the Semnoz summit plateau above Lake Annecy in Haute-Savoie, at the end of January. It is a short mountain race, approximately 11.5 km with about 462 m of elevation gain and a peak elevation of 1,701 m. The race begins just before sunset, starting in daylight and quickly requiring headlamps as the participants form a line of lights across the plateau.
The course is not particularly technical, but the altitude, winter conditions, and consistent climbing make it challenging for its distance. Runners are treated to expansive views of the Alps and, on clear days, toward Mont Blanc. ASPTT Annecy Athletisme organizes the event, which has seen consistent growth in entries since its inception. At the finish, the atmosphere is more akin to a local mountain gathering than a large urban event, with participants sharing mulled wine and Savoyard soup after completing the snowy course.
