Les Courses du Père Noël is a Christmas-season trail running and walking series held in Les Herbiers, Vendée, western France. Taking place in mid-December, it uses the Parc Expo des Herbiers as its main event base and finish area. Participants can select trail distances of 11 km, 24 km, 35 km, or the 133 km La H.O.T du Père Noël, while walkers have 11 km and 16 km routes. The longest race begins at 7 p.m., meaning its runners are active through the night, distinguishing it from a typical daytime trail race.
The H.O.T. is the most challenging: 133 km with approximately 3,300 meters of elevation gain, crossing hilly roads and the Vendée countryside around the Herbretais bocage. It holds a UTMB Index listing, attracting ultra runners seeking a significant winter challenge. However, the event also accommodates walkers, young runners in Benjamins and Minimes races, and shorter-distance trail runners. ABV organizes the series, and its Christmas theme is evident beyond the name, featuring a "farandole de cadeaux," or parade of gifts. A solidarity race concludes the Sunday program, with all entry fees contributed to La Matinale du Handicap.
