About this race
Les Défis Quiberonais - 1.5 km is an open-water swim held in Quiberon, on the Brittany coast, during a summer weekend by Quiberon Atlantique natation. The 1.5 km distance is one of four challenges in a local series: Ardent, Feux, Carl Bech, and Ports, with names linked to Quiberon landmarks or features. The event attracts a large field for a sea swim, with 636 participants in a recent August and entries up 18% from the previous edition.
The swimming is integrated into a club culture extending beyond race weekend: the association also organizes sea swims and pool training throughout the year. Its sea outings range between Penthièvre and Grande-Plage, with distances from 1.5 km up to 12 km, and some summer swims go from Penthièvre beach toward Île Téviec. Race operations are divided between sea organization, land support, and judges/timing, with club members assisting over the two days; the same club also sends swimmers to the Belle-Île to Quiberon solidarity swim for CMT France.
