The Moorea Marathon begins and ends at Ta'ahiamanu Beach on Moorea. The main marathon covers 42.195 km, winding between the island's mountains and lagoon. The race weekend also features a 21.1 km half marathon, a 10 km race for runners aged 16 and older, a 5 km event for ages 14 and up, a 3 km race for young people and families, a 1 km children's race, and a first-run option for the smallest kids.
The marathon is intended for experienced runners seeking a full-distance challenge. The shorter races welcome families, younger athletes, and those preferring a less demanding event. The half marathon is noted as challenging yet accessible, while the 10 km is designed as a quick, welcoming middle-distance option. Polynesian culture is integrated into the event, with opening ceremonies featuring dance and Orero, the traditional art of speech. The atmosphere is intentionally lively, with energy present along the course, at aid stations, and at the finish line.
