About this race
Marathon des îles - Terre-de-Haut - étape 3 is the Terre-de-Haut event in the Marathon des îles series, typically held in late April in Guadeloupe’s Les Saintes. The primary event is a 14 km trail race covering 560 meters of elevation gain. While short on paper, it is a challenging island route. Some event listings mention a marathon distance, but the 14 km trail is the featured and most attended race.
The 14 km route begins at Marigot stadium and concludes at the town hall. It completes a loop of the island starting from Fort Napoléon, ascends Le Chameau, and crosses Grande Anse beach. Participants encounter a concentrated yet diverse Terre-de-Haut: the fort and its museum, a botanical garden, the bay, Pain de Sucre, and the tranquil village lanes. The race is also situated in a locale with a deep-rooted fishing heritage, where traditional canoes known as saintoises are integral to island life.
