About this race
The Bordeaux quays races offer a marathon, half marathon, and 10 km along the Garonne waterfront. The marathon and half marathon begin together at Place de la Bourse at 8 PM. The Bordeaux Métropole marathon, a night race and uncommon format in France, combined amateur and professional runners, creating a large city event atmosphere with approximately 17,000 starters and nearly 1,800 volunteers managing logistics.
The marathon course begins on the quays, crosses the Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge to the right bank, and returns over the Pont de Pierre. It then proceeds through Talence, Mérignac, and Pessac, passing wine estates like Haut-Brion and Pape Clément. The route revisits central Bordeaux, going by landmarks such as Gambetta, Pey-Berland, Palais Gallien, Porte Cailhau, the Grosse Cloche, Jardin Public, and the Grand Théâtre, concluding between Place de la Bourse and the Miroir d'eau. The event includes a 4-person relay marathon, cultural stops, and refreshment points. Historically, Bordeaux hosted a marathon about a dozen times before Stade Bordelais-ASPTT initiated the current version.
