About this race
The Marathon Trail des Forts du Périgord begins near the Cro-Magnon cliffs in Les Eyzies, a Dordogne village known as the world capital of prehistory. This March trail marathon in Nouvelle-Aquitaine features a single 42 km loop with 1,330 meters of elevation gain. Participants can complete the distance individually or as a relay team of two or four.
The course varies annually to showcase different aspects of the Périgord region. It crosses local villages, forest trails, cliffs, chateaux, historic homes, and hidden bories, which are small stone shelters characteristic of the area. The route includes Château Marzac, the Commarque forest, and the ruins of Château de Commarque. Les Eyzies provides a distinct prehistoric context, with the National Museum of Prehistory located in town and significant archaeological sites nearby. The last edition attracted over 800 runners, and finishers receive a plate of local Périgourdine specialties instead of a medal and water.
