The Orelle Challenge begins in Francoz, at the Place de la télécabine, within the Orelle Val-Thorens Les 3 Vallées resort in the Maurienne valley. This mountain event centers on two demanding options: a Vertical Kilometer on foot and a cycling climb. The running KV covers 5 km and ascends 1,133 meters, making it brief in distance but intense in climbing. The bike climb spans 14.5 km with an elevation gain of 1,202 meters.
Both disciplines share the same start and finish points, concluding at the Chapelle Notre Dame des Anges, although the cycling route follows a distinct circuit from the KV. Participants can compete solo, select the running race, the bike climb, or a discovery bike ride, or form teams for the DUO Challenge. In the duo format, one trail runner and one cyclist register for their respective disciplines and identify their partner to the organizers. The Orelle tourist office and Union Cycliste Vanoise organize the event, highlighting its core concept: one mountain, two ascent methods, and the possibility of sharing the challenge as a team.
