The Run for Planet Bordeaux - Talence is a Sunday morning race held at Bois de Thouars in Talence, near Bordeaux. It is part of the national Run For Planet series, a collection of eco-responsible and solidarity-focused events that also take place in cities like Lyon, Paris, and Nantes. The Talence event follows a straightforward format: a timed 10 km for runners seeking a measured effort, and a non-timed 5 km that can be run or walked. The event emphasizes ecological, ethical, and social awareness through practical measures like the absence of plastic bottles, encouragement to bring reusable bottles, and organic, local, and seasonal refreshments.
The course is contained within Bois de Thouars, giving the event the feel of a community race in a park rather than a city road race. The welcome village opens early, offering entertainment, a group warm-up, stands for various associations, and an eco-responsible area where visitors can learn about specific projects. A portion of each entry fee is donated to a chosen cause: five euros from the 10 km and three euros from the 5 km. Supported associations include Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux, Médecins du Monde, L214 Éthique & Animaux, Sea Shepherd France, and Planète Urgence. The overall initiative has gathered over 94,000 euros in donations since its inception. Unique elements feature medals and the race’s “planet balloon” displaying climate change through warming-stripe colors, an exhibition by artist Maëva Vignal, and vegetarian, organic, and local food from Green Cantine.
