About this race

The Tour du Lac de Vouglans VTT - Pont-de-Poitte is an 86 km mountain bike route beginning in Pont-de-Poitte, encircling Lac de Vouglans in the Jura region. The lake itself stretches 37 km, contains approximately 600 million cubic meters of water, and is situated within a rugged shoreline environment with restricted road access. This route is not a simple lakeside tour; it is challenging, technical, and intended for experienced mountain bikers. Electric mountain bikes are also a viable option, particularly if riders anticipate recharging their batteries mid-day. The course incorporates forest terrain, rocky segments, root-filled sections, singletrack, trails, and gravel paths. Points of interest include views of the lake, the Vouglans dam, and the historical narrative of the submerged Chartreuse. The Pyle bridge allows for the division of the main loop into a northern section of roughly 31 km and a southern section of approximately 55 km. A comparable variation creates loops of 32 km and 52 km. Additionally, the Bellecin Nautical Base provides a boat crossing to Mercantine beach, offering an alternative method for navigating the lake, which is more accessible by trail than by road. The route is signposted as a primary VTT path, identified by a red mountain-bike symbol on a white background, along with the designation “TLV.”
