About this race

Trail de Gâcogne is a small trail race in Gâcogne, a village in Nièvre in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France, with routes inside the Morvan Regional Natural Park. It is usually run in early March and offers three distances: 10 km, 18 km, and 28 km. This is a forest-and-nature trail rather than a road race, with wild ground, rougher sections, technical footing, single-track paths, and dense undergrowth. The longest route climbs 847 meters, so the local warning “Attention, ça cogne” fits the race well: it hits harder than its village size might suggest. A few hundred runners usually line up, which keeps the start calm and the event easy to understand for club runners, local trail fans, and people who prefer smaller races. Volunteers staff the aid stations with local specialties, and the area adds a bit of history too: Gâcogne sits near the former Ruère castle, where Marshal Vauban spent part of his youth.
