About this race
The 42 km Trail de la Côte Roannaise starts from Renaison at 07:00, the longest of four distances offered in a French trail event ranging from 11 km to 42 km. Held in late May around the Côte Roannaise, the event is organized by Le Côte Roannaise Raid Aventure and has over twenty editions. This 42 km course climbs approximately 2,000 to 2,200 meters and descends nearly the same amount, with a 7 hour 30 minute time limit and three aid stations.
The route ascends to the heights above the Roannaise coast, crossing many single-track paths, some opened specifically for the race. Runners will encounter a rugged, natural environment with rivers, rocks, narrow trails, and open viewpoints, distinct from a manicured park course. The shorter 11 km, 18 km, and 28 km races offer options for less experienced trail runners, while the 42 km is designed for stronger participants capable of managing long climbs and technical terrain. A PPS certificate or FFA license is mandatory, and the 42 km holds ITRA Mountain Level 5 status.
