About this race
The Trail de la Pierre qui Tourne begins in Le Fief-Sauvin, now part of Montrevault-sur-Evre, in Maine-et-Loire, within the Mauges region of western France. Race day commences before dawn, with the 90 km relay and the 93.8 km ultra both starting at 05:00. Shorter trail races follow throughout the morning. The event provides five distances, ranging from the 10.4 km La Silvanoise with 250 m of elevation gain to the ultra with approximately 2,190 m of climbing, catering to local runners and those seeking a challenging, hilly course.
The race highlights the commune's heritage, not solely its trails. Its name originates from the Bréau menhir, a Neolithic standing stone known as the “pierre qui tourne,” which features on the course and serves as the event's emblem. The organizing group, Fief Patrimoine Section Trail, evolved from an association dedicated to promoting Gallo-Roman artifacts, the ancient gold route, mills, footpaths, and the Evre valley. The routes traverse the Evre hills and adjacent countryside, showcasing local history on foot, with available distances including 23 km, 38.4 km, 90 km relay, and ultra-distance options.
