About this race
Trail de la ria et de l'océan is a winter trail event in Plouhinec, in Morbihan, with its race village set in the town center. It offers three running courses and three hiking routes, so the day is split between competitive trail runners and walkers. The organizers moved the start area to Bellevue and the finish to the lower part of town, with bib pickup and bag drop under cover at the Kilkee complex. The town center closes to traffic for the event, while parking stays in the Bisconte area with shuttle links to the race village.
The longest race is 28 km and gives the clearest picture of the terrain: market garden tracks, woodland, 3 km of dunes, 10 km on the Ria d'Étel coastal path, and 2 km on the beach. Volunteers from Chemins entre bois et mer help maintain Plouhinec's local paths, and the new routes needed marking, clearing, and permission from private landowners. Demand is high, with race entries full and a waiting list of nearly 800 people, while the hiking routes still offer a less crowded way to join the day. A previous edition was cancelled because of weather, so the current setup puts more of the village logistics in sheltered town-center spaces.
