About this race
Trail des 3 Couvents is a trail race held in late April in Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, located in France’s Isère department. Its routes traverse the Chartreuse massif, offering mountain running challenges. The race features three distances: 13 km with 750 m of elevation gain, 24 km with 1500 m, and a 53 km option with 3400 m of ascent. Some editions include a 50K-category UTMB Index race, adding appeal for those outside the immediate region.
The shorter courses wind through the Chartreuse forests. The 53 km race is designed for participants prepared for extended time on demanding terrain. Aid stations are positioned at approximately 5, 16, 27, 38, and 43 km for the 53 km event, and at 5 and 16 km for the 24 km course. Participants can compete individually or in pairs for certain formats. The organizers supply course maps and GPX files, beneficial for navigating the challenging terrain. The race incorporates a lighthearted "spiritual quest" theme, reflecting its name, but the core elements remain: forest trails, significant climbs, and the demanding nature of the Chartreuse mountains.
