About this race

Trail des 3 Provinces is a trail-running weekend held in Clisson, located approximately 30 km from Nantes. The event starts and finishes on the Hellfest festival grounds. Its name originates from Clisson's historical location bordering three former provinces: Brittany, Anjou, and Poitou. Participants can select from multiple race distances, including 36.8 km, 24.5 km, and 10.5 km. A 10.5 km race begins in central Clisson on Friday evening, and a 16.4 km Nordic walk is also offered. Approximately 2,500 runners register, and races often sell out before the event weekend. The course consists of three distinct loops, leading runners through the Hellfest site multiple times, including the Warzone area with its metal-themed environment. Beyond the festival grounds, the route follows the Moine, the Sèvre Nantaise, and the Margerie rivers. It combines rural paths with town streets through Clisson, passing landmarks like Moulin Fremon, the chaussée de Gervaux, the Moulin à papier du Liveau, and Château Olivier de Clisson. While the total elevation gain is moderate, the numerous short, steep climbs increase the race's difficulty beyond what the elevation figures alone indicate.
