About this race
The Trail des Balcons d'Azur begins in Mandelieu-la-Napoule on the French Riviera, within the Alpes-Maritimes department, typically held in early April. This mountain trail-running weekend offers four race distances, ranging from a challenging 23 km with 1,000 meters of elevation gain to a 105 km ultra covering 4,500 meters of climbing. The intermediate distances are also demanding: the 45 km race involves approximately 2,200 meters of ascent, and the 68 km race features about 3,400 meters of climbing. The event is part of the XTERRA Trail series and is listed on the French National League calendar.
The routes traverse the hills above Mandelieu-la-Napoule, meaning even the shortest race requires significant climbing ability. The race designations add local character: Le P’tit TBA for the short course, Le Trail de TBA for the 45 km, L’Ultra Trail des Balcons d’Azur for the 68 km, and Le Défi des Balcons d’Azur for the 105 km. The ITRA classifies the terrain as Mountain Level 4. The 68 km race has a Finisher Level 10 designation, a 13 hour 30 minute time limit, and five aid stations. A recent 68 km running saw around 300 participants, providing a substantial field without the congestion of a major urban event.
