About this race
The Trail des Balcons d'Azur begins and ends at Parc Familial de Robinson in Mandelieu-La Napoule, located in the Alpes-Maritimes on the French Riviera. This event is part of the XTERRA Trail Run World Series, offering a two-day trail running competition with distances from short to ultra. The schedule features a 14 or 15 km short race, a 23 km P'tit TBA, a 45 km Trail de TBA, 67 or 70 km distances, and a 90 or 105 km challenge, varying by edition and listing. Significant elevation gain is present even in the shorter races; the 23 km route has approximately 1,000 metres of elevation gain, and the ultra distances reach about 3,200-4,500 metres.
The courses traverse the Estérel departmental park, with red rock formations, rocky terrain, undulating trails, and Mediterranean vistas that define the race's regional character. Participants run amidst indigenous flora, such as wild rosemary, instead of on broad urban streets or level pathways. Over 1,300 runners participate, comprising local trail runners, visiting mountain runners, and athletes aiming for XTERRA Trail Run World Championship qualification. The venue is conveniently compact for spectators, as all race formats share the same start and finish point in Mandelieu-La Napoule.
