The Trail des Chamois starts in Coligny, France's Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, sending runners into the Revermont hills. Chamois can be seen near a quarry climb on the long course. The race offers distances from 9-10 km (short trail and family) up to 18 km, 31-34 km, 42 km, and the 65 km Grand Trail des Chamois, which includes approximately 3,140 to 3,300 meters of elevation gain. Held in March, it is a mountain-trail event featuring steep ascents, ridges, villages, forest paths, and a hiking option known as Randonnée les Jonquilles.
The Grand Trail route crosses the stone village of Salavre. It then ascends above Verjon and Roissiat, villages that suffered significant destruction during wartime reprisals against Resistance activity in the Revermont. Participants will follow the Sentier Mémoire de Pierre, an outdoor stone sculpture trail, and pass near the Grand Brûle monument, commemorating Nazi atrocities. The course also includes a vertical-kilometer-style ascent of Mont Myon, a challenging 500-meter climb over 4 km near Mont Châtel and Mont Nivigne, Merovingian ruins, the Cave of the Bear, Château de Rosy, and ridges overlooking Val Revermont.
