About this race
The Trail des Châtaignes begins at the Fort de Cormeilles-en-Parisis in Val-d'Oise, northwest of Paris, and takes place on an autumn weekend in November. This trail-running series is centered on the Parisis massif, offering five events over the weekend: canicross, canirando, a Saturday night trail, and Sunday trail races of 17 km and 36 km. The 36 km race involves approximately 1,150 meters of climbing, making the longer option a significant hill challenge rather than a simple run near the city. Participation is capped, and the event attracts thousands of runners annually from the Île-de-France region.
The courses traverse challenging paths through the Buttes and massif of Parisis, providing expansive views of Paris and the surrounding basin from elevated points. The organizers collaborate with heritage and land-management organizations to preserve certain areas and allow damaged sections to recover, meaning the course design is partly influenced by the need for site stewardship. Dogs are also integrated into the weekend: participants can enter canicross, and walkers can join canirando, with both events coordinated by the Canipirates club. For runners seeking an extended challenge, combined formats link the 22 km night trail with either the 17 km or 36 km race the following morning, featuring distinct classifications for these combined efforts.
