The Trail des Côtes de Toul begins in Toul, a town situated on the Moselle river in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Runners then head into the Toulois hills. The event offers a 10 km road race alongside trail options of 16 km, 20 km, 33 km, and a longer route covering approximately 35 to 37 km. This variety caters to participants seeking either a shorter climb or a demanding day on the trails. The shorter races are not flat; the 10 km involves around 375 m of elevation gain, the 16 km about 590 m, and the longest routes exceed 1,000 m.
The courses traverse local paths, woodlands, plateaus, and steep terrain above Toul. Named routes include La Trace de Michel, La Trace du Diable, and La Trace des Leuques. A specific challenge combines the 10 km road race with the 16 km trail on the same weekend. Originally established as Trail des Leuques, the event is organized by US Toul Athlétisme. It operates with semi-autonomy, providing aid stations that vary based on distance. Participants are required to bring their own cup or flask, as disposable cups are not provided.
