The Trail des Mouflons takes place in Cherveix-Cubas, Dordogne, within the Gorges de l'Auvezère, featuring forest trails and scheduled for late January. It provides three trail races and a walk. Le Grand Mouflon covers 44 km with 1,400 m elevation gain, Le Petit Mouflon is 25 km with 700 m, Le Dalon is 12 km with 280 m, and the walking option is 11 km with 200 m. The 44 km race is also a UTMB 50K Index event, attracting runners seeking a certified mountain-style challenge alongside those participating in a local winter trail event.
The routes are single loops through forests and the Auvezère gorge area, offering sufficient elevation to provide a genuine trail experience even on the shorter distances. A recent 44 km edition saw 157 finishers, with the winner completing the course in just over four hours and ten minutes, indicating the terrain's difficulty. Registration is exclusively online via Klikego; no race-day entries are permitted. Bib collection occurs at the Cherveix-Cubas village hall. The event maintains a practical, local character, with entry fees covering aid stations, a welcome gift, traditional soup, and a post-race snack. All races commence after a mandatory briefing at the start line.
