About this race
The Trail des Traces de Laudun-l'Ardoise starts runners from Halles Planchon in Laudun-l'Ardoise for two rocky trail races with Roman-themed names. Le Gaulois is the longer option, approximately 22.5 to 24 km with 850 to 950 m of elevation gain. Le Centurion is around 11 to 11.5 km with 280 to 370 m of elevation gain. The long race is part of the Challenge Gardois des Trails, and the field is limited to 500 bibs across both events.
The Gaulois route passes through the Camp de César, near Gallo-Roman ruins, oak forests, Mediterranean plants, and offers views toward Mont Ventoux. It features technical singletrack and steep sections aided by ropes at La dent de Signac and the Belvédère d'Orsan. Local course names include Combe d'enfer, Chapelle St Pierre, combe Roubaud, natural stairs, and the passage du Loup. The finish goes under the Balouvière bridge, known locally as the Pont du Gard, and concludes at the Léo Lagrange gymnasium. A non-competitive hike, La Cléopâtre, follows the Centurion course, allowing walkers to share the same Caesar-footsteps theme without participating in the trail races.
