About this race
La Balthazar and La Magnum give the Trail des Vignes de Vernou-sur-Brenne its wine-cellar vocabulary: the longer race is 18 km, the shorter one is 9 km. The event is a trail race in Vernou-sur-Brenne, in Indre-et-Loire, run on the first Sunday of March. The 18 km route climbs about 230 m and is open to runners over 18, while the 9 km route climbs about 145 m and is open to runners over 16. Each distance is capped at 350 runners, so the whole day is built for about 700 participants rather than a huge field.
The course uses the local vineyard country around Vernou-sur-Brenne, with paths through vines, woodland, plateaus, slopes, and open natural sections. The 9 km race counts toward the Challenge Départemental Trails 37, which brings in runners following the local trail circuit as well as people choosing the shorter option. The race is organized by APEERL, the parents' association for the Roger Lecotté schools in Vernou-sur-Brenne, so entries support local schools. After the run, the food is unusually specific for a village trail: oysters, acras, crêpes, and rougail saucisse, with the rougail available to order ahead or buy on site.
