The Trail du Fourchat begins in the village square of Rosans, Hautes-Alpes, with participants starting early on a Sunday morning in mid-October. This mountain trail event takes place within the Baronnies Provençales regional natural park. It offers shorter 10 km and 20 km races, alongside a longer route of approximately 40 to 42 km. Even the shorter races involve significant climbing: the 10 km has around 750 meters of ascent, the 20 km has about 1,580 meters, and the long course climbs approximately 2,400 meters.
The course primarily follows DFCI fire tracks and narrow singletrack, with brief road sections connecting the trail segments. The long course reaches an elevation of about 1,449 meters and descends to 555 meters, featuring technical terrain rather than simple paths. It crosses protected natural areas, including a Natura 2000 zone and a ZNIEFF, leading race regulations to emphasize environmental respect. Participants also head towards Saint-Andre-de-Rosans, crossing the grounds of its priory, a designated historic monument. Entry includes a meal and a local product like honey, jam, or soap, contributing to the race's intimate village atmosphere.
