The Trail du Mont-Aigoual begins and ends in L'Esperou, near Valleraugue in the Gard department of Occitanie, France. This trail running event takes place in the Cevennes massif in early July, offering three individual race distances: La Lusette (23 km with 720 m elevation gain), Le Montals (13 km with 350 m), and Le Pueylong (8 km with 170 m). An 8 km hiking route with the same 170 m ascent is also available, ensuring the day caters to more than just runners.
The courses are almost entirely off-road, with 99% of the route on trails. Participants will run through forests and past waterfalls. The race format is semi-autonomous, requiring participants to manage a portion of the race without complete roadside assistance. La Lusette is part of the CGTO challenge, and this event is in its 23rd edition. A local saying captures the spirit with a pun: "Y'a rien d'Aigual a ce trail !"
