About this race
The Trail du Moulin de l'Epinay is a trail race held in mid-April at the Moulin de l'Epinay in La Chapelle-Saint-Florent, Maine-et-Loire, western France. Participants can choose between a 10 km nature route and a 23 km trail with approximately 370 meters of elevation gain, offering newer trail runners a shorter option and more experienced runners a longer challenge on varied terrain. A 1.5 km Parcours Seraphin is available for children over 6, requiring adult accompaniment and featuring minimal elevation change, allowing families to experience trail running on an accessible course. Separate races are also organized for children and juniors, broadening the event beyond a typical adult-only trail race.
The race was established by the association Un Village Un Moulin and the commune of La Chapelle-Saint-Florent to highlight local landmarks. The course centers around the functional Moulin de l'Epinay, leading runners through forests, technical ascents, and swift descents in the Loire and Evre valleys. The route also passes Coulaine, known for the Evre river's sculpted landscape, and Courrosse, a designated natural area. While timing and registration utilize electronic chips and online systems, the event maintains a local character. Runners attend for a focused village trail day centered on the mill, river valleys, and paths suitable for both novice and seasoned trail runners.
