The Trail et Criterium des 4 Cantons begins and ends on the village square in Villars-sur-Var, located in the Alpes-Maritimes region above the Var valley. This late-April event features two timed trail races: a 15 km with 800 m of elevation gain and a 30 km with 1,800 m of elevation gain. Walking routes are also available in 5 km, 15 km, and 24 km options, each offering significant elevation for its length. The event is situated at the base of the Préalpes d'Azur and is part of the Challenge Trail 06 circuit, qualifying for ITRA and UTMB points.
The event's approach is functional and community-focused. Breakfast is provided before the start, with three aid stations on the course and one at the finish line. All participants receive a hot meal post-race. The 30 km trail serves as the primary mountain challenge, while the 15 km race offers the same steep local terrain in a condensed format. Additional amenities at the finish area include a technical T-shirt, professional massages, a bag drop service, dedicated restrooms, and participant parking. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the first male and female in each age category.
